handmade bag with rain clouds and rainbow ran drops and art print

It is raining here in Manhattan, and I really wish it wouldn’t!  Especially this Saturday, when I’m supposed to share my new books at my first outdoor street fair along Amsterdam Avenue in the Upper West Side.

When I signed up for the booth originally, the weather forecast said it would be sunny and temperate.  Now, as we get closer and closer to the weekend, the forecast is saying it’ll be cold, rainy and windy,  which is not a good mix for boxes of books!

To help see rain as a more benign visitor, I thought this cute bag from Sewn Natural and this art print from Laura Di Francesco would be sweet and cheerful for a child to carry and to display in a child’s room… ~YiShaun

Children's room ideasGrowing up, I had white furniture against a white wall next to a white dresser and a white desk.  Even though the trend now is apparently to have “pale rooms, sucked free of distracting reds, blues and yellows,” I think you can add so much more whimsy to a child’s room with bright bursts of color.

What kind of kids rooms do you like to see?

I love the little airplane hanging from the ceiling.  What a great way to spark your child’s imagination… ~YiShaun

checklist for kids There have been big changes happening here at AdoraPet.  I’m so excited to share with you that I received the advance review copies of all 8 AdoraPet children’s books!  I know I’m biased, but I think the books are so cute.  I can’t wait for you to see them and share them with your kids!

I’ve been updating the website and blog for the last couple weeks and transferring them over to a new server, so things have been spotty… That’s why I’ve been MIA for the last couple of weeks: I couldn’t log into my account!  But I think I have all the kinks worked out now for the most part…

During this time, I’ve been busy thinking up all sorts of goodies for you to share with your family.  Drum roll please… My first printable gift for all you AdoraPet Insiders out there: a Get Ready for School with Pima Puppy and Pico Puppy checklist!

When you sign up on our mailing list, you’ll get a link to a full-size, 8.5″x11″ checklist that you can download for free just because we love you for loving us.  And to show just how much we love you, when you sign up, you’re automatically entered into our Free-Book-A-Day giveaway, where I randomly pick one of our mailing subscribers each day for the rest of 2011 and send the winner a free book!  Oh, and did I mention that you also get a coupon code and a chance to win a $100 Barnes & Noble gift card also?  Yes, we love you lots.

I got this email from a mom who shared our checklist with her kids: ”We looked over each item and talked about it. And my 4 year old started making his bed because of it! He never used to make his bed before and when we were going over the checklist and I said that Pima Puppy is making her bed, he asked me what that meant and asked me to show him, so I did. So he’s been making his bed ever since! My sons loved the pictures and they liked that they can relate to it and it’s things they can do themselves! I am glad too that my 4 year old is making his bed AND his little brother’s bed…” -Andreea A., Colorado

That email seriously made my day.  I love how kids love learning and mastering new things.  All we have to do is show them how.

If you were to win our Free-Book-A-Day giveaway, which book would you pick?  ~YiShaun

Last week, I had the pleasure of guest posting on my friend’s blog, RunGiaRun.  Gia had twins last year, and she asked me to do a spread on family lifestyle finds for twins.  Check out her blog for the whole post: Good Things Come In Two’s.

Be sure to bookmark Gia’s blog, RunGiaRun, for all things twins, running, and motherhood in Manhattan…  ~YiShaun

How cozy do these tree houses and little nooks look?  I love how each has its own unique character but all inspire such feelings of comfort.  When I look at these pictures, my mind starts wandering to an afternoon full of delicious relaxation and whimsy.  I wanted to share them with you so you and your kids could also enjoy some carefree daydreaming of your own.

Did you grow up with a tree house?  Do your kids have a beloved tree house?

Here’s to places that inspire…  ~YiShaun

It was the tiny pearls on the strawberries that made me love these cupcake-like washcloths from Mommy n Me Diaper Cakes – attention to detail really brings an idea alive and shows the love behind a creation.  What a cheerful way to present a baby shower gift!  ~YiShaun
